BUSINESSES TAKE TO THE TREADMILL TO RAISE MONEY

FOR LOCAL CHILDREN’S HOSPICES

Local businesses downed tools last week to take part in our “Ultra Challenge Run Day” at our offices at The Business Village in Barnsley. 66 runners and walkers representing 32 Barnsley businesses and organisations took to the treadmills in a relay for an entire working day, with two treadmills on the move between 8am and 5pm. Those taking up the challenge were sponsored and donated funds for our chosen charities; local children’s hospices Forget Me Not and Bluebell Wood. The challenge has already raised funds of over £850, with all sponsor money to be collected by the end of this week. Watch this space for our final donation announcement!

The Ultra Challenge Run took place during National Children’s Hospice Week, to mark the start of our charity partnership with Forget Me Not and Bluebell Wood. We set ourselves the initial target of £1000, so we are well on our way to meeting that target after only 2 months.

Speaking at the event on Thursday Totally Runable Director Natalie Jackson said “It’s a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of both Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, as well as the great work that they both do for children with life limiting conditions. Today we were hoping that between us we’d run more than a Marathon, which would be the distance of an ‘Ultra Marathon’ but across the day we’ve managed more than three marathons so we’re really pleased. We’ve run the distance from Barnsley to Liverpool! Maybe we need to start aiming higher!”

Photographs and social media support was shared throughout the day using #UltraChallengeRun. The Business Village’s Kevin Steel was one of the first to pledge his support, and one of the first on the treadmill on the day, “For us it’s not only a great way to raise funds for two brilliant charities, but it is a nice way for businesses who are tenants of The Business Village to both add to their corporate social responsibility work, and do something fun with other tenants. It’s a win win and I’m so pleased Totally Runable asked us to be a part of it. It’s been so well supported by all the organisations who have been represented – we even had a visit from the Mayor!”

There is still time for donations to be made, either directly to Totally Runable at The Business Village, or at the online donations page. We’d also like to say a massive thank you to lots of people who made the day possible and helped us to raise so much for such great charities. Huge thanks to everyone at The Business Village, Barnsley College, CSP, Ascot Doors, Van Man Wayne, Celebration Events, Novus, Asda, The Mayor of Barnsley and all our runners and walkers.
